It's a long time, four weeks in fact, since our thoughts last turned to the League Cup competition but at long last the four semi finalists have been established.

Workington raced their final match in the Border section at Ashfield on Sunday afternoon and their target was clear, win by more than six points and a semi final place was the prize. The Tigers kept it close throughout the match and it came down to a last heat decider for the Comets. They needed to gain a heat advantage to secure the necessary win.

Josh Grajczonek, beaten only by Kevin Wolbert in heat one, and Rene Bach, defeated only by Lemon and Pijper earlier in the match were chosen to contest the last heat against Theo Pijper and Kevin Wolbert, winners of only three heats during the match. The result was, perhaps, predictable and the Comets duly completed the 5 -1 necessary for a semi final place.

So the four semi finalists are now known. The Comets join Peterborough, Sheffield and ourselves. We expect to hear the semi final draw early in the week.

Elsewhere, Stevie Worrall was in action for Cradley Heathens in their Knock Out Cup match at Mildenhall. Stevie scored 17 from his six rides losing only to Daniel Halsey in Heathens big away win.
