The Scotwaste Monarchs stormed to the top of the Premier League table at the cutoff with a dominant 54-36 victory at Ashfield.

This in many people's eyes is the major achievement of the season in any case, but now of course we enter the Playoffs and will make first choice of opposition tomorrow.

Alex Harkess said "I felt we had it under control after four races. We had so many potential race winners.

"I'm pleased the weekend is over, 60 races in three days is not to be repeated."

We had several standout performances in a meeting we dominated most of the evening, only being behind briefly at heat 2. Excellent gating was again the key to success.

The main man again though was Craig Cook, bouncing back from an unlucky night at Armadale yesterday to score a paid maximum. He even took a paid win in heat 5 after destroying the tapes and going off 15 metres, passing the disappointing Wolbert and Aarnio to join Justin Sedgmen at the front.

When you add in paid 11 for Max Fricke, paid 10 for Sam Masters, 9 for the amazing Sedgy, plus two wins for Stevie Worrall and paid 8 for captain Deek, it's obvious we had a winning combination.

Glasgow were unfortunate to have to ride again without Rusty Harrison who has been on such good form at Ashfield recently. They were reliant on Theo Pijper (14) and spirited reserve Lykke, but had only four race winners.

We were only six ahead at heat 10 when the Ben Fund collection was held, but took the last five race winners and had added 10 to the lead by heat 13.
