Scotwaste Monarchs produced one of their best displays of the season to brush aside the challenge of Ipswich by 53 to 37 and place ourselves in a very strong position to lift the Knock Out Cup at Armadale on Friday evening.

With Stevie Worrall missing to be with his partner Annabelle awaiting the birth of their first child many thought that this would be a more difficult match but the Scotwaste Monarchs were having none of it. Craig Cook and Justin Sedgmen set down a marker with an opening heat 5-1 with Cookie smashing his own track record and although we ended up at the back of the same score in heat 2 we dominated the match from then on.

5-1s in heats 3 and 5 and a 4-2 in 4 took us ten points ahead giving us the lead in the match which we never surrendered. The Witches got a 5-1 in heat 8 and a fortuitous maximum in heat 10 when Max was caught out on the second turn but we provided the race winners in the last five races with maximum heat advantages in 12, 13 and 15.

Craig and Sam scored untroubled maximums and Max would have done the same but for heat 10. Justin started like a train and battled hard throughout. Aaron and Derek were highly competitive although we have an injury worry about Derek. He slipped off in heat 7 but was quickly up again and was clearly in some discomfort with a knock to his left hip. He rode in heat 9 but took no further part after that. We await a Friday update.

The teams reconvene at Armadale on Friday as the Scotwaste Monarchs attempt to finish the job and win the Knock Out Cup for the first time since 1999.
