German star Kevin Wolbert will return to the Scotwaste Monarchs’ lineup for the defence of our titles in 2015.

It will be his fourth season at Armadale. On an average of just over 6 the former German Champion should have considerable potential for improvement on a disappointing year with Glasgow in 2014.

He said “I’m absolutely happy to be back. At Armadale you have some chance to pass, not like a normal track, and also Doc tries to make the track 100% every time, and the same each week. Not like tracks which are slick one week and grippy the next.

“We have already ordered new engines. The engine I had before in Edinburgh, I sold, but I will try the new ones at press and practise. I will work on my setup there and hope to get back to the standard I was when I was at Edinburgh before.

“Last year the problem was that I wasn’t prepared properly at the start. My bikes had been in the UK all winter, I signed at the last minute for Glasgow, and I struggled with my bikes. After two years Michael Lee didn’t do my engines any more, so I was left in the UK with no tuner.

“It was maybe the club, maybe me but it wasn’t a good season.”

Kevin previously rode for Monarchs between 2009 and 2011, finishing as our no. 1 in his final season with an average over 9. Since then he has had spells in the Elite League with King’s Lynn and Belle Vue, before signing on loan for Glasgow last season.

“I will find a team in Germany, and in Denmark I might have some guest rides. For me the important thing was to get a place in the Premier League. When I was at King’s Lynn that was OK but at Belle Vue there were not enough meetings. I would have ridden for Glasgow again, or another club, as long as it was Premier League.”

Kevin has recently become a dad with a new son named Killian.
