Rule changes brought in during the winter at the Promoters' AGM have allowed Workington to strengthen their team for the visit to Armadale on Friday night.

The Border Roofing Monarchs open their defence of the League Cup with a really tough match against the Comets. They seem to have five heat leaders in their side and an unfortunate injury to reserve Nathan Greaves has allowed them to introduce Glasgow's Victor Palovaara in his place.

For many seasons the absence of the lower averaged reserve was covered by a guest from the National League. On almost every occasion this resulted in the team being weaker. Sensibly the Promoters voted during the winter to allow a guest replacement from the Premier League. It is always the hope, when selecting a guest, that he will perform better than the man he is replacing and the Comets seem to have struck lucky on this occasion.

Greaves has had two big pile ups in the last four days. Pulling out of the British Under 21 semi final at Mildenhall after one ride and then he had another big crash at Birmingham on Wednesday night.

The Border Roofing Monarchs will need to be in top form to repel the Comets and with Craig Cook, Justin Sedgmen and Sam Masters in good form that should produce a solid base.

The only rider in action on Friday at Armadale who was in action on Thursday was Kyle Howarth who scored 7 for Swindon as they pipped Lakeside by four points.

Supporters are reminded that online discounted tickets are only on sale until 11.59pm on the night before the meeting and they then revert to normal admission prices. We had a number of calls last Friday asking how to obtain discounted tickets on the day of the match but it's too late then to obtain the discount.
