Border Roofing Monarchs’ star Sam Masters has been awarded the wild card in the Australian Grand Prix which is on 24th October in Melbourne.

He will be in the meeting proper taking on the World Championship contenders and matching himself against the best!

Sam has followed the Grand Prix series for as long as he has known about speedway and watches the DVDs from the early days of the competition. This morning he is on his way to Ashfield for a pre-League Cup publicity event but he agreed he is very excited about getting the chance.

“I’ve always followed the GPs, it’s as far as you can get in the sport. I’ve beaten some of the guys who will be there – there was a race at Poole which had Chris Holder, Magic Janowski and Doyley in it, and I won it!

“Obviously I am not up to their standard all the time yet but I won’t be that far off the pace, I don’t think so anyway.

“It’s been a funny season for me, I’ve ridden well, ridden badly, broken bones… and end up riding in a Grand Prix!

“However I’ve got important meetings to ride in for Edinburgh before then and I can’t be wrapped in cotton wool just to keep me fit for the GP. I hope the weather stays good so that we can get all the fixtures in.”

Reserves for the Aussie GP will be Justin Sedgmen and Max Fricke, making it three of our 2014 treble winners in the meeting. Sam follows Stefano Alfonso and Craig Cook as Monarchs who have been full competitors in a Grand Prix.
