Our new Aussie lad Jye Etheridge might be shivering but he is busily preparing for the biggest moment of his speedway career so far, his debut for the Border Roofing Monarchs

He said just after his arrival, “I haven’t got my bikes yet, I’ve been sorting them all out and will pick them up this week. I hope to get out for a practice as soon as possible.”

Jye will soon become a familiar figure at all tracks because he will be working with Sam Masters in his Elite League appearances.

“That will mean seeing all the tracks and the continental riders, and getting some rides after the meetings as well. So I should get plenty of experience.

“I plan to get up to Armadale as soon as possible to check things out there and meet the people.”

Jye and Sam Masters are staying with Jye’s brother in the midlands which is more than handy. How come an Australian rider has a brother here already?

“He came over when he was younger, then came back last year and he’s working for Triumph. Sam arrived last week but I think he flew out to Poland right away.”

The usual question – is the weather too much for a sunworshipper to cope with? “Not too bad, it’s a massive change but I’m getting used to it. I went down to London last week and had a look around, saw all the big icons, had a pretty good day.”
