Erik Riss was the star turn when ex-Monarch Christian Henry staged his Testimonial at Newcastle on Sunday afternoon. Christian was an Armadale stalwart from 2000-2002.

Erik won all of his five races even though ref Jim McGregor actually awarded the fifth one to Christian Henry, who was a surprise inclusion in the nominated heat but lost a chain on lap four!

Erik gated superbly and never gave the opposition a chance. He was in the opening pair for the King’s Lynn and Edinburgh select, riding alongside Kevin Wolbert who only scored a single point. However Christian was very grateful to both for showing up to support his meeting at short notice.

The track was dry, which was apparently quite amazing as it had been under water early in the day. Trackman Jonathan Swales was at the track at 5:30 to repair the circuit and it paid off.

There was also great interest in the lineup for some heats featuring former stars on a variety of bikes. These included Peter Carr, Ross Brady, Derek Sneddon, William Lawson, Kevin Little, George Stancl and James Grieves, with others including Andrew Tully, Kenny McKinna and Sean Stoddart also at the meeting.

Christian and his wife Elaine will be returning to Australia in a couple of months.
