The Border Roofing Monarchs were well beaten tonight by 57-35 at the Oak Tree Arena by Somerset Rebels, who went back to the top of the league with the 3 points gained.

It isn’t a track where many teams target a victory, but Monarchs have had two brilliant wins there in the last three seasons. This time it was never on the cards. And to make matters worse Ryan Fisher has had to take a trip to Hospital with an ankle injury sustained in heat 14, to get it checked over.

John Campbell said “It will be some hours before we know about Ryan. There’s a possibility he has broken a small bone in his foot. The paramedic said he was in some pain but I must say I didn’t see that – but we know how tough Ryan is.

“There wasn’t much in our performance to enthuse over. Dan did well and is learning fast and was even competitive in heat 13, but other than that, not much. Somerset are a very powerful team and they scored a maximum from Charles Wright’s rides, though given how we rode Charles might have scored that anyway.”

We were ten points down by heat 4 and had one brief moment of joy in the next race when Sam Masters won his tactical ride with Mark Riss taking a good third place ahead of Paul Starke.

Later Masters won heat 13 and Fisher was awarded heat 14 after the crash with Starke. These were our only heat winners.

We travel to Sheffield tomorrow and hope that Ryan Fisher will be fit to be part of the team.
