We send our heartiest congratulations to Max Fricke, Monarch of 2013-4, for his achievement in winning the World Under-21 Championship in tonight’s third leg in Gdansk. It’s a big step up the ladder for Max who is still only 20.

A good number of Edinburgh fans made the trip and it was well worthwhile.

The only previous Australian winners are Jason Crump, Leigh Adams and Darcy Ward though Steve Baker won it back in the days when it was the European Junior Championship.

Another good performance too from our own Erik Riss with his second final appearance over the three legs. He finished third on the night and seventh overall - and don't forget he is a double World Champ as well!

Erik of course is only in his second full season as a speedway rider. However he is now 21 so won’t get another shot.

Max Fricke finished with a total of 46, Erik totalling 27. Erik will be back in good time for our last meeting of the season against Glasgow on Friday.
