The 2017 Australian Championship gets underway with the first round (of four) taking place at the Gillman track in Adelaide on Wednesday morning, our time.

We have two riders taking part this year, Sam Masters, hoping to go one place better than his runners up spot last year and Josh Pickering hoping to impress.

It won't be easy as in addition to last year's winner, Brady Kurtz, there is further strong opposition. Troy Batchelor, who won the South Australian Championship on the same track just twenty four hours earlier, leads the contenders with Davey Watt also contesting the series. Former Monarchs Max Fricke and, in form, Justin Sedgmen also compete.

In addition to those riders, others well known to us taking part in the Championship are Rohan Tungate, Jack Holder, Todd Kurtz, Nick Morris, Mason Campton and Ty Proctor so it is certainly going to be a hotly contested series.

After Gillman the series moves to Mildura on the 7th, Undera next Wednesday before concluding at Kurri Kurri a week on Saturday.

We have our Australian correspondent, Howard Williams, lined up to bring us reports from all rounds of the Championship.
