New Monarch Ricky Wells continued his more than satisfactory start to the season by scoring 12 points from his five qualifying rides in Berwick’s 50th Anniversary meeting, with the meeting being abandoned at that point due to heavy rain.

Ricky was level on points with former Monarch Claus Vissing but the big Dane had recorded four wins and a fall, which with the usual ‘countback’ method coming into play, meant that Claus took the trophy with Ricky second.

Richie Worrall was the third direct qualifier for the final on 11, while the semi-finalists would have been Steve Worrall, Jason Garrity, Josh Grajczonek and Lewis Bridger. So a satisfactory night for all of these.

Club chairman Alex Harkess was down checking on our new boy’s performance and was happy with what he saw.

“Ricky was never in any great trouble. He made the start in two of his first three heats and probably knew he was going to make the final as long as he picked up steady points. He looked the part.

“The track was very hard, deliberately, because of the amount of rain, and that was probably the only way they managed to get through it.”
