A coming together with Kyle Howarth in heat 13 of Friday's match with Sheffield left Sam Masters with a broken collar bone and, potentially, a lengthy absence from racing but Sam's doing everything to make that period as short as possible.

Sam was taken to Forth Valley Hospital in Larbert on Friday night and eventually received confirmation that the collar bone was broken and should be left to heal naturally resulting in an absence of up to six weeks.

Not being too keen on that diagnosis Sam visited another hospital on Saturday for another opinion which confirmed the break and that it should be left to heal naturally with an absence of, well you know the story.

On Tuesday Sam visited a specialist in Preston and has now been booked into hospital for an operation on Friday. At that point he will know if he can reduce his absence to his hoped for two weeks or if it will be longer.

For this weekend Parsons Peebles Monarchs have booked in Newcastle's Ludvig Lindgren to ride at Armadale on Friday and Glasgow on Saturday.
