Cumbria Bound On The Hunt For Points

The Staggs bars Monarchs are hoping its 3rd time lucky as they look to open their Championship Shield account once again as they take to the Derwent Park Shale against the Workington Comets last night.

The Comets are another who have suffered with the weather woes having lost their home match against Glasgow last week and away trips to the Tigers and of course at Armadale on Friday night.

There are two changes to the Comets line-up this evening as Bradley Wilson-Dean steps in for the unfortunate Mason Campton who broke his wrist while practicing at Leicester during the week and in a further change apparently Ty Proctor does not have his clearance sorted yet and the Comets have been allowed a guest replacement with Charles Wright stepping in.

Wright appears to have started the season like a train romping to a 6 ride paid maximum in his Sheffield debut last week so it would appear the Comets have been shrewd in the two replacements brought in.

Wright and Wilson-Dean join the 5 remaining Comets who despite a lack of team action have at least taken to the Derwent shale in the Cumberland Open a fortnight ago (a meeting that Wright secured a podium place in also) so they will be dialled in and looking to build on their respective scores in that meeting where potentially only Rene Bach would have been happy with his night recording 2 heat wins.

Of course in the same meeting Ricky Wells showed his liking for the Cumbrian circuit finishing in joint 4th place with 11 points this coming on the back of a maximum on our league visit last September then he will be looking to carry this form into this match.

Joining Ricky in a maximum on that night was Erik and with Mark also known to like an outside blast round the boards we look well placed in the heat leader positions. Added to that former Comet Matt Williamson with a point to prove and the basis is there for a strong performance.

Max Ruml will have the benefit of a Cumberland Open appearance also and will be looking to improve on his second visit and with the track a little more to the shape and dimensions of the Swedish tracks Joel is used to then there is no reason he can’t hit the ground running as well.

So all in all a tight meeting looks in prospect against a strengthened Comets outfit as we go looking for our first points of the season. Can we do it? There is only one way to find and that’s to get yourself to Derwent Park to cheer the guys on.
