The Staggs Bar Monarchs face a very difficult Knockout Cup tie this weekend, racing arch-rivals Glasgow at Armadale on Friday and at Ashfield on Sunday. New signing Coty Garcia will take his place in the Monarchs' lineup.

The 2018 Monarchs have made an inconsistent start to the season, not helped by the stop-start nature of the fixtures. Heat leader Mark Riss fancies his team's chances – if everyone can be on their best form. He said "I think the new riders did quite well at Peterborough where I did badly. If everyone was at their best at the same time I think we could win away matches as well. At the moment everyone has some bad meetings and some good meetings.

"I think we can win this tie. I think everyone is doing quite well at home. Of course Glasgow are good at home as well so Sunday won't be that easy. Me and Erik were at Ashfield last Sunday and they seemed to have more dirt on the track, it looked quite grippy."

Team manager Alex Harkess added "We've got the first leg so it is important that we take an advantage. We haven't done that against Glasgow up to now this season, but it's time to turn the tide. They are having an up and down season, not that different from ourselves and they've already had a huge home defeat, but we know what they are capable of."

THIS WEEK'S MEETINGS:

Friday 25th May: Staggs Bar Monarchs v Glasgow (Knockout Cup) 7:30pm

STAGGS BAR MONARCHS: Ricky Wells, Joel Andersson, Mark Riss, Max Ruml, Erik Riss (capt.), Coty Garcia, Josh Pickering.
