Monarchs On The Road Again

PREVIEW Sunday 22nd May 2022, 1:34pm

by Graham Muncie

  Edinburgh Monarchs

The What the Fork Monarchs head to Redcar on Sunday looking to build on a backs to the wall win against the same opposition on Friday night.

The Monarchs victory did come at a cost though with reserve James Sarjeant crashing out, early diagnosis of a broken shoulder and multiple broken ribs means a spell on the side lines lies ahead for our senior reserve, Kyle Bickley steps in for this one.

The rest of the Monarchs line-up is as per normal with Lasse back in the fold after a 5-point tally in his European Championship qualifier in Hungary yesterday afternoon.

The Monarchs recent record on Teesside is fairly good with a draw and 12-point victory last year so a repeat of either of those would be greatly received. As can be said for pretty much every track now Sam Masters ands Josh Pickering both have big scores there previously while Kye also racked up a paid 8 score in that playoff win.

Elsewhere, Paco will look to carry on from his red-hot performance on Friday night and unusually for Lasse and Jacob it will not be a trip into the complete unknown both having carried out some pre-season testing on the Redcar circuit.

So, the Monarchs team heads south looking for points. This task will not be easy though as the Bears look to bounce back from a home defeat of their own last week against high flying Poole. The hosts welcome back number 1 Charles Wright after he missed out on Friday night. At the bottom end Jordan Jenkins misses out still with Ben Morley continuing to deputise.

The rest of the Bears is as was on Friday night with Erik Riss looking back to his best and Lewi Kerr also in fine form at the moment. The home fans will be looking for improved performances from Adam Roynon and Kasper Anderson after they posted disappointing returns on Friday night.

Another big match in store then with points important for both, the Bears not wanting to add another home loss to their record while for the Monarchs away points over the season are now a must to make up for the 2 home defeats suffered to Glasgow and Leicester so far.

Tapes-up at 5pm with updates available on the Monarchs website.
