British Speedway is set for 2023 following the AGM of promoters earlier this week. Find out what's new for 2023!

British Speedway Promoters met earlier this week to confirm details of the structure of the sport in Britain for 2023.

The Championship will consist of 9 teams, the same as 2022 but without Leicester who step up into the Premiership. The league programme will see each team race against each other once at home and once away.

The League Cup returns to open the season with the 9 teams split into three regional groups. Monarchs will take on Glasgow Tigers and Berwick Bandits in the group stage. The winner of each group and the best runner up overall will progress to the semi finals.

Following Monarchs excellent run to the Cup semi final in 2022, the Knock Out Cup takes places once again. Monarchs have been drawn against Oxford Cheetahs in the quarter final stage.

The Play Offs will decide the 2023 league champions but with a new semi final format. The top six teams in the table will progress to the semi finals. These teams will split into two mini-leagues of 3 teams with the winner of each group progressing to the final.

The league point scoring system will change with the return of the aggregate bonus point. 2 league points will be awarded for a win, 0 points for a loss. Should any match or aggregate score end in a draw then a new Super Heat will be staged.

Teams will nominate riders for an additional heat - the Super Heat - with the heat scoring system changing to 4 points for a win, 3 for second, 2 for third and 0 for last or non-finisher. The team that scores most in the heat will take the two league points for winning the match. The team that loses will take a consolation league point.

Monarchs team building plans are well underway for the 2023 season. Teams in the Championship will build to a 40 point limit with no other restrictions. Announcements regarding the 2023 team will follow in the weeks ahead.
