Mason Watson is seeking to supercharge his speedway career as he signs up for Stellar Monarchs Academy for the 2024 season.

As he looks to develop his speedway ability, Mason Watson is setting his focus on mastering more technical tracks. The 23 year-old from Berwick-upon-Tweed has spent his career to date with his hometown team but now Watson is ready to progress, "I had a few offers for 2024 but I chose Edinburgh as I feel a small technical track is where I need to be in order to progress more this season.

"Edinburgh is a very professional club and produces a lot of very good riders. I feel like the move to the club will only better me as a rider.

"I'm excited for the new challenge in 2024, I've rode at Berwick since I started my career so I feel like I need to master the small tracks now. Berwick is a brilliant track to race but last season I felt like I struggled on the small tracks like Armadale.

"I've always enjoyed riding at Edinburgh I've just never really scored big points there so hopefully that will change this season."

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Watson has set a clear target, "My goal this year is to add a few points to my average, I'll be looking to get into a heat leader spot as well.

"I've got a lot more to give in speedway and I'm ready to push on this year. I had a pretty rough season last year with injuries and not much bike time but my last meeting for Berwick I top scored, so I'm looking to keep that momentum going into 2024 with Edinburgh."

Watson's desire to join Edinburgh is music to the ears of Stellar Monarchs Academy manager Scott Wilson who added, "Mason is a great lad, he will fit into our team extremely well.

"Something I've heard people say about Mason is 'he can only ride Berwick' – well, he's already told me he really enjoys Armadale so I look forward to him proving some people wrong this year. I know he had a couple of other clubs chasing him but he wanted to be here at Edinburgh, that's exactly what I want in my team.

"He'll start off in a second string berth and his goal for the season has to be to stay in the top 5 all season, and improve his average while doing so. I'm confident he can do both."
