Edinburgh Monarchs
Stellar Monarchs recently signed up exciting young talent Jordy Loftus - find out more about our latest recruit now.
Jordy has run through for us an account of his motorcycle career so far and is excited to be joining the Monarchs, the club at which his idol Max Fricke started his British career. He has recently arrived in Edinburgh with his dad James, with mum Miranda and his sister Anika following in the school holidays.
Jordy tells us, "I started riding bikes in 2014 and started racing in 2015. That was on a dirt track bike, a little peewee. We stepped up on different bikes until starting speedway in 2020 in Brisbane, which was when Covid was on. I just fell in love with the sport.
"I'm number two in Australia on the 250s, I rode those until I turned 16 in March when I jumped on to a 500 and since then I've been getting better and better on it.
"I rode in SGP3 in 2024, and that went well in the semis when I got fifth. In the final In had a little bit of bad luck the way things went but my final placing was thirteenth.
"After that we did the Extraliga camp in Poland, the practice went well and I felt I improved a lot. On the first day there was a three-way tie for first, and on countback I got second. On the second day I ended up fifth overall. After that we went back home.
"I've done some meetings on the 500 back home, mainly it has been practise. This was at Nepean. I got a second place in the meeting there after choosing to defend when my opponent pulled out a different line.
"In a meeting at Tamworth it poured down rain before and during the meeting so the track was not the best, but I got second there. It was good practise racing in the wet".
Jordy has been studying Armadale as much as you can from the other side of the World. "I've been watching every single video they have put up from Armadale. It looks amazing, I'm excited to join the club and meet all the people and race for you guys. I know of Justin Sedgmen and Kye Thomson and I've got to know Kye more personally over the past year or so. We practise at the same track in Ipswich. I've been watching his technique going around the track and getting some tips off him".
He has already enjoyed one memorable day with Max Fricke who of course started his UK career at Edinburgh. "My idol in speedway is Max Fricke. When I was at the SGP in Gorzow I got to walk out onto the stage with Max which was a great experience for me".
He added, "I've been going on to Facebook and looking up all the clubs, and looking at the Edinburgh Monarchs page to see when the next matches are, and getting ideas on how to ride the tracks. I will be racing for the Academy as well as in the Championship, and I see that I will have three or four away matches before I race at Armadale!
"I'm going to give it my all. My dad will be taking me to the tracks. My dad is called James, most people call him Jimbo!"
Clearly the whole family are committed to giving Jordy his chance over here, and his mum Miranda said, "Our family doesn't have a long history in speedway, we are very green so this will be a steep learning curve for us all. We are really looking forward to it, everyone we have had contact with has been absolutely lovely. It's very reassuring for both James and myself as parents, and for Jordy as well.
"I don't think he realises how much he achieved in dirt track, he has made Australian podiums and done a lot leading up to speedway, and holds titles in speedway right through from 125s to where he is now".
Jordy wil make his British Speedway debut this Sunday 15th June for Monarchs Academy away at Middlesbrough before lining up for Monarchs away on Wednesday 18th June at Oxford.
