Stellar Monarchs have been dealt a blow ahead of Friday's Cab Direct Championship Play Off semi-final second leg at Ashfield, with skipper Paco Castagna ruled out through injury.

Paco was competing in the prestigious Golden Helmet event in Pardubice on Sunday, reaching the quarter finals, when he suffered a heavy crash. After initial concern, he was able to climb to his feet but has since confirmed that he sustained a broken shoulder.

The Italian star said, "Thank you for the many messages from everyone. Broken shoulder, head held high, and looking forward to getting back to work soon."

Manager Alex Harkess added: "It's a big disappointment to lose Paco at this stage, but injuries are part of speedway. We wish him the very best in his recovery, and now it's up to the rest of the team to dig deep and finish the job."

Despite this setback, Monarchs carry a 14-point advantage into the second leg following their excellent home win at Armadale Stadium last week. The focus now is on producing another strong team effort to reach the Final.

The Club is currently working on options to cover for Paco and will provide a further update later in the week.
