Edinburgh Monarchs Academy
Monarchs Academy have been strongly represented as usual in the British Youth Championship this season, even though our own round on 13th September was cancelled due to the weather. And we have one gold medallist and one silver!
We've had Rocco Webb competing in the 500cc championship, scoring points even though he is handicapped by the rules in his home meetings and has to ride round alone after the meetings. Liam Morris at 250cc level has had the same issue.
The Youth titles at these levels have still to be decided and will depend on results from Leicester (two separate events later this month).
However we know who the top dogs have been in the 125cc and support events! Invincible Lewis Hague who did so well in the Northern Junior League over the summer, won all of the rounds contested and so is the champ for 2025 at 125cc. Brother Callum was pipped in the support section by Douglas Marshall and is the runner-up for this season at the Support level.
Of course there is much parental involvement. Lewis and Callum's dad Derek Hague is clearly happy with his boys' achievements so far and ready to support them in their involvement in the sport. He says "All the two of them want to do is just ride their bikes, constantly! We're happy to support them as long as they want to do it. We've got a lot of good sponsors behind us, if it wasn't for them then we probably wouldn't be able to afford it. They keep us going."
Lewis Hague is now 12 and brother Callum is 10 so it will be a while till they are moving up to 500cc where Rocco and Liam compete.
Derek told us "Both are sticking with 125cc next year, Callum will move up from the Support Class. There's more opportunity for Lewis to ride in 125cc than there would be if he moved up to 250cc. Lewis and Callum riding together is good that's bringing Callum on riding with Lewis."
It's a good setup with family involvement and the Academy sessions which Stefan Hislop takes charge of. Derek adds "The parents get on well, the kids get on well. They came through from the start together and raced together so they brought each other on.
"Hopefully we can get Duns Training back running. We have a sort of committee involving the parents trying to run it, us with the Webbs, the Marshalls and a few others. trying to get it back up to standard. It's the perfect size and setup for the kids."
