The Championship starts for Monarchs on Friday this week as they take on Workington Comets in their first match in this year's competition. All clubs will be seeking a top four spot to qualify for the Playoffs.

The very disappointing news for Monarchs is that they start their campaign without Dan Thompson, in-form number one in the side, because Dan suffered a broken collar bone riding for his Premiership team Leicester on Monday. He will be replaced on Friday by Berwick's Nick Morris as a guest.

Workington await news from Craig Cook who has missed a couple of matches due to a collar bone injury, and they also have replacement reserves as Vinnie Foord is injured and Max Perry away at an FIM event. However their recently-signed Dane Niklas Holm Jakobsen is fit after injury and will ride.

Team Manager Alex Harkess believes that Monarchs will come out on top even without Thompson. "It is a huge blow to lose Dan but I think Nick is as good a guest as we could have got. Workington I think have a strong top four in theory but it's not as strong as our top five really, which I think is as good as any in the league. If they perform at home as they did last Friday then that will be fine."

Friday's match will be Live Streamed for those who cannot attend, details on www.edinburghmonarchs.co.uk.
