Edinburgh Monarchs
Monarchs' Jordy Loftus was a worthy fifth in today's British Under-21 Championship Final at Redcar. The winner was Cooper Rushen from Jody Scott, with Ace Pijper awarded third after crashing in the final in which Will Cairns was controversially deemed the culprit.
Jordy had been the fifth highest scorer and finished third in the semi-final behind the two Redcar riders Ace Pijper and Jody Scott. The Monarchs' man might have done even better as he had been in front of both Max Perry (heat 7) and Jody Scott (heat 16), but didn't quite get out far enough to cover the outside line.
He gated well though and defeated Will Cairns in heat 17 to ensure he made the semi.
Monarchs Academy rider Vinnie Foord also scored well after his recent return from injury and scored 10, winning his last ride. He just missed the semi on countback of race wins.
The third rider in the event with Monarchs' connections was Lee Harrison who had three reserve rides and scored 2 points.
At 16 Rushen will be one of the youngest winners and has a great future, as do some of the other leading riders in the event. It was a fairly scrappy meeting with a lot of stoppages but the result was a fair one.
