The Scotwaste Monarchs won more comfortably than expected against Redcar in their opening Premier League match, finishing 56-37 ahead in spite of a brilliant 16 points by Aaron Summers.

The home side were very solid, with Andrew Tully's excellent 13 his best score of the season. The rest of the top five all won races as did Simon Lambert, an excellent guest at reserve with 7+3.

For the visitors veterans Jason Lyons and Gary Havelock were out of touch, leaving reserve Adam Roynon to give Aaron his best support with some spectacular riding. The highly rated Matej Kus found the track tricky though he was unlucky in his final heat.

Ironically Summers was using an engine borrowed from Gary Havelock to out on his super show. He won his first two heats by yards, then had to give best to the speedy Tully in heat 9 when on a TR.

He then won heats 13 and 15, and in the latter race held off strong challenge from Craig Cook and Andrew Tully even though he had lost his footrest at the start!

Monarchs head to Berwick on Saturday night, though with Kyle Howarth of Belle Vue Colts as the stand-in for Jay Herne.
