The Staggs Bar Monarchs race their final home Championship Shield match at Armadale this Friday against Workington Comets, who are unbeaten in the competition.

However the Comets have drawn three of their five matches so far, an unusual statistic which leaves them needing at least a draw against Monarchs to go through from what is known as the Border section. If Monarchs win, then Glasgow qualify! Monarchs themselves can't reach the semi-final BUT it will be the first chance for their fans to see them since they sensationally knocked Glasgow out of the Knockout Cup (with home and away victories) almost a fortnight ago!

The evening will also be the third in the series of "Decade" nights which the Monarchs have been enjoying as part of their 70th Anniversary season. This time we celebrate the 1970s in the company of four stars of the period, Brian Collins, Alan Bridgett, Bert Harkins and Benny Rourke.

Team manager Alex Harkess said "It's been a stop-start season for us recently so I am pleased that this is the start of a consistent run of home matches plus some important away ones. Some of our riders have still to settle to their home track so Friday will be a very good test against strong opposition."
